7 Minute Timer

Seven minutes owes its popularity to one workout. The routine published in the American College of Sports Medicine's journal in 2013, twelve bodyweight exercises of thirty seconds with ten seconds between them, comes to about seven minutes and went around the world under that name.

It is also a reasonable shower, roughly what a rice cooker needs to come up to pressure, and the length of a school changeover. Long enough for a proper effort, short enough that nobody can claim they did not have time.

The tip: that workout only works at the intensity it was written for, which the authors put at about an eight out of ten. Their own point was that the effect comes from the effort rather than the format, so a comfortable seven minutes is a warm-up wearing a study's name.

Start with the button or the space bar. For the twelve stations with a sound at each change, set the interval timer to thirty seconds of work and ten of rest.

Questions

Is this the seven minute workout timer?

It is a plain seven minute countdown, which is what most people want alongside the routine. For the thirty on, ten off pattern with a sound at every change, use the interval timer.

Does the seven minute workout actually work?

As a short high intensity circuit, yes, at the effort level the paper described. As a comfortable seven minutes of movement it is better than nothing and not what the study measured.

Can I keep it on screen while I follow a video?

Yes, and it also keeps the screen awake while it runs, so a phone propped against a water bottle does not go dark halfway through the set.
