20 Minute Timer

Twenty minutes is the shortest block that feels like real work. It clears the ten minutes of fidgeting that the start of any task seems to require and still leaves something on the other side. It is also the standard nap that does not leave you groggy, the roasting time for most vegetables cut small, and the length of a physiotherapy set that people actually finish.

Screen breaks borrow it too: the twenty-twenty-twenty rule asks for twenty seconds of looking twenty feet away every twenty minutes, and a countdown is the only reliable way to notice.

A tip for study and desk work: spend the first two minutes of the twenty writing down what finished looks like. Not a plan: one sentence. The block is short enough that a wrong turn costs the whole thing, and a sentence you can check yourself against is what keeps the other eighteen minutes pointed the right way.

Press start or the space bar. Press F for fullscreen if you want the number visible from across the room.

Questions

Is twenty minutes a good nap length?

It is the usual recommendation, because you wake before deep sleep starts. Set it after you lie down rather than before, because the falling-asleep part is not the nap.

Can I see the countdown from across the room?

Press F for fullscreen. The digits are drawn as pixel blocks rather than text, so they stay sharp at any size instead of turning into a blur.

Does the tab title show the time left?

Yes. The remaining time appears in the tab title while it runs, so a timer you have buried behind other windows is still readable at a glance.
